Country’s roads under the pedals of environmental-friendly cyclists

Support the Nature

Fortunately, our country is home to numerous environmental friendly associations, institutions, organizations, and groups. One notable group is 'GorgDasht,' a duo of cyclists traversing the country, actively contributing to nature preservation through educational initiatives. Since its formation four years ago, they began journeys ranging from a couple of days to months, and now the group has grown to include 15 active members.

The 'GorgDasht' members conduct educational activities in cities and villages, focusing on nature conservation. Co-founder Kourosh Behzadi explains, 'Our group travels to habitats of endangered species, raising awareness along the way. Our campaigns include addressing the salt lake tsunami, Persian Gulf dolphin extinction, deforestation, overfishing, cheetah hunting, water conservation, and the endangered khazar seals. Formed among friends, each member now contributes to different aspects of our initiatives - from design and planning to travel preparations and journey slogans.

As Behzadi notes, despite the diversity of tasks, their primary emphasis is on educating children to ensure the sustaining of nature for future generations.

Nevertheless, they also actively engage with adult audiences and even involve the elderly in conversations during their trips, with each new experience bringing unique feedback.

Behzadi highlights that children aspire to become heroes, and through learning about nature, they become environmental heroes within their families. They learn about water conservation, maintaining trees, and appropriate interactions with animals to avoid causing harm.

When Rivals are embraced with joy

Discussing and exchanging ideas in small gatherings isn't enough to unravel the complex knot of nature preservation, which requires the attention and efforts of millions. This realization prompted Behzadi to adopt an educational approach during their cycling tours with Mahmoud Ghaemmaghami. Following this revelation, they embarked on domestic trips, occasionally stopping to explain to the crowd how nature can be protected. On their pathway to advocacy, these nature-loving cyclists encounter some rivals, competitors they embrace with delight. According to Behzadi, “We regard our contenders as both fellow cyclists and companions, and on the journey to fulfill our goal, we are both allies and rivals. In four years, we've completed six journeys, each lasting at least one month and up to two and a half months. Education begins the moment we leave our homes.”

Put Yourself in the Place of Other Beings

Kourosh Behzadi says, "The most crucial aspect is not to lose heart. We have come together as a group with the goal of expanding our team, providing education that enables members to respond to the environmental queries of their fellow citizens. Therefore, the knowledge of our team must stay updated, and they should maintain a habit of reading. Moreover, they should be able to communicate effectively to have the necessary impact.

In addition to all their delicate measures, Behzadi emphasizes, “During our journeys, the initial lesson we impart to our audience is to empathize with other species by practicing putting ourselves in the place of other creatures. This enables them to understand their emotions. When children grasp this concept, they learn not to chase animals but rather to observe and even care for them. Through this form of education, children gain insight into the emotions of trees and animals, fostering the best behavior towards them.”
